Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Honors Malverne Author for Memoir "The Silence Between Two Heartbeats"

MALVERNE, N.Y., September 2026. Town of Hempstead Councilwoman Melissa Miller has formally congratulated Malverne resident and author A T M Haidar Khan on the publication of his memoir, The Silence Between Two Heartbeats. She described the book as a powerful account of a family facing one of life's most frightening trials.

In a signed letter on official Town of Hempstead letterhead, Councilwoman Miller called the memoir "a powerful testament to the strength of a family bound together through fear, resilience, hope, and the unwavering love of a father."

The Silence Between Two Heartbeats follows a family through the uncertainty of a newborn's stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and a diagnosis of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), a brain injury caused by a lack of oxygen around the time of birth. The book is written from a father's perspective. It explores fear, faith, and the quiet endurance that carries parents through days measured one heartbeat at a time.

Councilwoman Miller highlighted the courage it takes to share such a personal story publicly. She wrote that by opening his heart to readers, Khan has offered "a profound reminder of what it means to fight for those we love, to endure unimaginable uncertainty, and to find light even in the darkest moments."
