NEW YORK — The National Library of Peru has accepted The Silence Between Two Heartbeats for its bibliographic collection, marking an institutional step for the memoir of a family’s experience with neonatal intensive care and caregiving.
The book follows a father and his daughter through a difficult birth, a diagnosis of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, seizures and a 21-day neonatal intensive care unit stay. It is a first-person family narrative, not a medical guide, and offers readers a parent’s perspective on the uncertainty and daily work that can accompany a child’s hospitalization.
The library’s correspondence outlines further accession steps after the physical book and a signed letter are received. The acceptance is therefore being reported as an accepted placement proceeding through formal incorporation, rather than as a completed catalog record.
